Job Description

The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) is looking for a Director of Community Partnerships to expand outreach and engagement efforts on behalf of the Haas Center with local community-based organizations, government, businesses, individuals, and neighborhoods. This position will serve as a crucial liaison for community partners, manage partner-facing events, strengthen communications with local to global partners, and oversee the center’s Americorps VISTA program. The Director of Community Partnerships will work closely with an existing senior program director of campus partnerships and report to the Deputy Director.

The Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education (VPUE) at Stanford acts as the main connection point for undergraduate students to the various educational opportunities at the university. It aims to engage faculty, instructors, and staff in actively supporting undergraduate students' intellectual growth. VPUE offers a wide range of programs and initiatives for undergraduates, including introductory courses, writing and rhetoric classes, research support, academic advising, overseas study programs, inclusive teaching practices, and public service opportunities. Additionally, VPUE works to enhance faculty interaction with undergraduates and to facilitate enriching experiences for all involved in undergraduate education at Stanford.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.
  2. Knowledge of local communities, government, nonprofits, and familiarity with community issues/concerns.
  3. Demonstrated creative initiative and excellent problem-solving skills, and ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituencies.
  4. Strong written and verbal communication, active listening and interpersonal skills needed to work with a broad range of individuals successfully, including Stanford stakeholders, local officials, business owners, and the public.
  5. Must be accurate and attentive to detail and follow through as well as have the ability to view problems from a "big picture" or third-person point of view; demonstrated analytical ability.
  6. Ability to work sensitively and ethically with confidential information, work independently, and demonstrate good judgment and tact when handling difficult or sensitive situations.
  7. Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal (including risk management standards and procedures), financial, and university policies and external regulations.
  8. Ability to use social media, cloud-based file sharing, and a variety of standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office).
  9. Ability to accomplish goals working through formal and informal channels, with diplomacy and tactfulness.
  10. Ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
  11. Demonstrated success in following through and completing projects.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and enhance outreach efforts and programs aimed at collaboration with local communities organizations, neighborhoods, key individuals and opinion makers, and the general public.
  2. Develop practices, resources, and systems to support community partners in recruiting, preparing, and working with students and faculty through Haas Center programs.
  3. Lead high-visibility initiatives to highlight community partner expertise on campus, such as the Social Entrepreneurs in Residence at Stanford program and the Distinguished Visitor program.
  4. Oversee the center’s Americorps VISTA program, which recruits 3-5 young professionals to full-time capacity-building roles with key community organizations. Responsibilities include site selection, recruitment and selection, and ongoing evaluation of the program.
  5. Design and produce materials such as newsletters, FAQs, how-to guides for partnering with Stanford students and faculty, and other web-based content.
  6. Develop and implement assessment tools and feedback mechanisms for use with community partners, to help guide our student preparation and gauge our community impact.
  7. Attend campus and community meetings. Represent the Haas Center at community events and programs, and with local/regional networks.
  8. Provide community-based audiences with selected, proactive, and timely information about Haas Center activities.
  9. Plan, design and coordinate engagement events including an annual partner breakfast, end of year celebration, and periodic issue-based convenings.
  10. Liaise with relevant campus units including the Office of Community Engagement to align practices and policies and address barriers and challenges.
  11. Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks. Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking. Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand. Rarely sort/file paperwork.
  12. Other duties may also be assigned.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected pay range for this position is $111,000 to $128,000 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
