How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:
Develops and maintains a cost accounting system by utilizing technical system skills, produces reports and completes analysis of data presenting and interpreting that data to users.
- Maintains a costing accounting system including maintenance of master tables. Develops system technical skills as required to administer the cost system.
- Collects and maintains data to support procedure level cost including the RVUs necessary for cost calculations, and reconciles/verifies data uploads from other systems including GL, Payroll, SMS, etc. Designs edits and checks including verification and investigation of data to ensure data integrity and accuracy as deemed essential to the costing foundation. Through frequent and thoughtful interactions develops and maintains positive relationships with internal providers and clients, including clinicians.
- Designs and implements ad hoc reports utilizing the cost data along with analysis and interpretation of the data and data trends. Assists in the development of standardized reports. Responds to user requests in a timely manner. Seeks ways to improve process and products.
- Understands the cost structure as demonstrated through presentations and conversations with all levels of users. Acquires an understanding of the cost algorithms necessary for the cost calculations. Demonstrates knowledge of cost drivers. Constantly seeking ways to refine cost data and promote system capabilities.
- Works with department and service line managers to identify and understand significant variances in procedure costs. Supports analysis on procedure costs. Investigates cost variances and provides feedback to users along with suggested resolutions for cost issues.
- Analyzes cost data by DRG, physician, payer, ICD9 or CPT codes, facilities or cost categories. Communicates analysis both verbally and written with user-appropriate explanations.
- Keeps appropriate cost team members and clients updated on cost issues for each respective site.
- Provides materials and gives presentations to various levels including staff, managers and senior management concerning cost data or reports along with appropriate education on the cost structure.
- Position supports and provides backup for other cost team members as deemed appropriate.
- Constantly seeks ways to refine cost data and promote system capabilities. Responsible for quality and process improvement in this department as well as others in relationship to data warehousing, charge capture, cost capture and allocation, etc.
What We Require:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance or Management Engineering.
Experience: Proven analytical skills with financial statements and information/data management systems experience required. Healthcare or cost accounting experience preferred.
Licensure/Certifications/Registration: CPA designation or exam qualification preferred, but not required.
Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent customer-service skills are essential, as is the ability to work independently or as a team member. Excellent communication skills are necessary to enhance data confidence. Expected to multi-task and prioritize work load to meet non-negotiable deadlines. Must be able to handle single-entity as well as multiple-entity and system-wide reporting, interpreting and deadlines. Required technical skills include downloading and uploading information into Trendstar. Programming development is required to build and maintain the cost process.
